Sandra Yvonne Butler

April 16, 1938 — April 20, 2024

Sandra Yvonne Butler, a strong-willed and compassionate soul, gracefully departed this world, on April 20, 2024, in Merkel, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones, and holding the hand of the love of her life, Bill Butler. Born to Cecil and Cathryn Clews Shelton on April 16, 1938 in Dodge City, Kansas. Sandra led a life filled with love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to others.

Sandra met Bill in 1960 and were engaged after 3 weeks. The couple married 3 months later on June 17, 1960 in Independence, Missouri. Sandra's professional journey was marked by selflessness and expertise. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Kansas. She went on to dedicate 23 years of her life as a registered nurse at Minneola Hospital in Kansas, specializing in the delicate field of labor and delivery. Her nurturing nature touched the lives of countless families during their most intimate moments. After her impactful nursing career, Sandra transitioned into nursing home administration where her reputation for running a tight ship reflected her dedication to providing the best care possible for those in need.

Sandra was known for her exceptional skills in quilting and sewing. Her handmade creations were not only a testament to her talent but also cherished keepsakes that will forever hold memories for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was to be an exceptional cook, a huge fan of KU Basketball (Go Jayhawks!), and in recent years, enjoyed bingo.

As we mourn the loss of Sandra Yvonne Butler from our lives, let us take comfort in the profound impact she made on everyone she encountered. Her kindness, resilience, and passion for caring will be dearly missed but forever treasured in our hearts.

Sandra is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Bill Butler; children, Brad Butler of Abilene, TX, Shelly (Steve) Debenham of Abilene, KS, and Sharlet (Denver) Gulley of Mountain Home, AR; brothers, Eddie (Maggie) Shelton, and Eldon Shelton; grandchildren, Natalie (Camie) Garvey, Nathan (Klarissa) Lundquist and their children Kyran, Charlie, Kimber, Joey, and Shelton, Brian (Casey) Lundquist and their son Jackson, Shelbi (Quentin) Bearden and their children Casen, Rylan, Christian, Riggs, Audye (Eric) Gonzalez and their daughter Lilian, and Jake (Mary) Butler and their children Sawyer and Stella, and many nieces and nephews.
