Richard “Dick” Christopher Gabl, 93, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, went home to the Lord on August 8, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on October 12, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, to Anthony and Marie Wallscheid Gabl. In 1954, Dick was drafted into the United States Army, serving two years during the Korean conflict. After service, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Poc, on May 26, 1956, in Mount Prospect, Illinois. After living in DesPlaines, Illinois, for 10 years, they moved their young family to Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin. Dick was a carpenter by trade, while owning and operating Totem Pole Lodge for 21 years. In 1996, Dick and his wife retired and moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he enjoyed the rest of his days.

Dick was an avid bowler. At the age of 75 he achieved his lifelong goal of a perfect game – twice! He and his wife coached junior bowlers for 13 years. He was president and secretary of the bowling association in both Wisconsin and Arkansas and was inducted into the Arkansas State Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2011 for his dedication and service.

Dick met his wife during guitar lessons and continued his love of music and guitars. He played in the bands Melody Kings in Illinois and the Sentimentals in Arkansas.

Dick enjoyed golfing and watching his favorite sports teams, the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He could be found most days watching sports on TV.

He was active in the Lions Club in Wisconsin and the Knights of Columbus in Wisconsin and Arkansas. He was a 4-H leader for 10 years, a self-taught taxidermist, and after retirement joined a woodcarver’s club.

Dick was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Gabl of Mountain Home, AR; three daughters, Donna (Paul) Bell of Palm Coast, FL, Susan (Randy) Anderson of Hudson, OH, and Sharon (Robert) Buss of Shawano, WI; four grandsons, Matthew Soeder, Timothy (Erica) Soeder, Anthony (Olivia) Buss, and Alex (Joanna) Buss; six great-grandchildren, and additional grandchildren through blended families; sisters, Jean Brunelle of St. Petersburg, FL, and Judy Gabl Estes of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marie Gabl; step-mother, Agnes (Walsh) Gabl; brothers, Robert Gabl and Gerald (Loretta) Gabl; brother-in-law, Bruce Brunelle; niece, Debbie; and nephew, Brent.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 pm, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Mountain Home with Father Alex Smith as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Military Honors provided by the Alley-White American Legion Post #52 and United States Army Honor Guards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
