Philomena Cox, a beloved resident of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on March 27, 1937, in Vincennes, Indiana, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Nina Haywood Haines. Philomena married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Cox on June 14, 1959, in Bloomfield, Missouri, beginning a partnership filled with love, laughter and devotion.
Philomena and Gordon made their home in Bull Shoals in 2004, relocating from Collierville, TN. Her life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her community. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Flippin, Philomena also became a valued member of the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club, following years of supporting Gordon in his Rotary endeavors. Philomena was passionate about bird watching, reading her Bible, and traveling with Gordon.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gordon Cox of Bull Shoals, AR; her son, Brian Cox of Salem, AR; her granddaughter, Brianna Cox of Mountain Home, AR; her grandson, Nicholas Minard of Mountain Home, AR; and her son-in-law, John Mitchell of Flippin, AR.
Philomena was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Deanna Mitchell; and her brothers, Virgil and Robert Haines.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Flippin, with Pastor Aaron Lindsey officiating. Entombment will follow at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Flippin.
