Mitchell P Nielsen, 88, passed away on August 17, 2026 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born on October 13, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, to Peter M and Alice G. Stone Nielsen. Mitchell retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1975, where he served as a Chief Warrant Officer Three during the Vietnam War. They moved to Arkansas in 1993, where he enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Nielsen of Mountain Home, AR; daughter, Cindy (John) Bachleda of Marengo, IL; son; Craig Nielsen; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Brenen) Bachleda, Kevin Bachleda, and Adam (Kaitie) Bachleda; three great-grandchildren, Lilli, Drayton, and Emma.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara Nielsen; and sister, Alice Stone.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Entombment will follow in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum in Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Military Honors by the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
