Michael David Culbertson, age 71, passed in Mountain Home, Arkansas, on September 10, 2026 (AKA Mickey, Papa Smurf, Daddio, Mike, Papa). Son of Barabara (Dawson) and David Culbertson, he will be forever cherished by his wife, Ellen Culbertson (His Beautiful Butterfly), his daughter Kimberly (His Angel) and her children Hailey, Adelaide, Elijah, and Eden, and his daughter Elizabeth (His Princess) with Matthew and their son Gabriel, and his Step-Brother Brent Smith and his sons Conner and Matthew as well as many other friends and family.

Most recently of Bull Shoals, AR, Michael has lived an adventurous life. Born in Hannibal, MO, on November 13, 1954, throughout his life he resided in MO, NV, CA, KS and AR enjoying the wildlife, mountains, oceans and lakes wherever he roamed. Whether he was riding the hills on his bike, rambling through the woods, or watching a sunrise while fishing off the boat, he was most at home enjoying God’s creation with his girls.

Early Mike played football and the trumpet and enjoyed the drama club as much as a rock concert. Although the war ended before his number was drafted, he served as a first responder in support of his country. Technically gifted, he spent his later life working on HVAC systems, electrical panels, and fiberoptics; tinkering with boats, bikes, and rebuilding computers in his spare time. Although cantankerous with a quick temper, he would hold you when you cried and made you believe you could do anything ‘if you put your mind to it’. He loved books and believed just as strongly in the power of street smarts. While he was sometimes known as Grumpy Bear, he’d be the first to tell you not to “let the ugly mother with the frown get you down”. So we promise not to be down too long and instead will strive to remember all your sage, albeit random, lessons, especially the Order of the Fox & Hound.

While his peak years were behind him, his passing was still unexpected and has left a profound hole in the lives of everyone that knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held in Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 1-3pm at 9700 E Vemers Ford, Columbia, MO.
