Joe Dean Graves, 81, of Mountain Home, died Friday, April 10, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Graves was born November 15, 1944 in Fountain Hill. He was a resident of Mountain Home for 20 years, a former resident of Hamburg for 30 years and of Fountain Hill for several years. He graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1962. Mr. Graves was a hard worker and dedicated 40 years of service as a Supervisor at the Georgia-Pacific Tissue Mill before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Mountain Home and in his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working, and tending to his cows. While he deeply loved his family, his grandson was truly his pride and joy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Sybil Gardner Graves; two sisters, Ruth McDougald and Jan Bankston-Crain; two nephews, Steve Stephenson and Russell Kelley and a son-in-law, Mark Carney.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Maglothin Graves; his daughter, Jodi Carney Vawter and her husband, Michael; a grandson, Maddox Carney, all of Mountain Home; a special brother-in-law, Richard Collins of Hamburg; a brother, Terry Graves and his wife, Sheila, of Mountain Home; three sisters, Brenda Jackson of Crossett, Betty Adams and her husband, Dale, of Hamburg and Judy Jackson and her husband, Byron, of Crossett, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Brill officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Marc Collins, Clayton Collins, Randy Fowler, Jacob Fowler, Tom Silzell, Herb Hice and Marion Clawson. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Fowler and Ted Hobbs. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
