Gretchen Marie Schol, a beloved member of the Morrilton, Arkansas community, passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 62. She was born on April 17, 1963, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Henry and Beverly Peterson Schol.
Gretchen's educational journey began at Harding Academy in Searcy, Arkansas, and she graduated from Dollarway High School in Pine Bluff. She earned her undergraduate degree from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, following which she began her career at the Pine Bluff Commercial. Demonstrating a commitment to her education, she pursued and obtained a Master's degree from Harding University. This accomplishment led her to a position as an editor for the Petit Jean County Headlight. Most notably, Gretchen dedicated a significant portion of her professional life to teaching English at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, where she inspired countless students.
Gretchen is survived by her mother, Beverly M. Schol of Mountain Home, Arkansas; her two brothers, Eric (Laura) Schol and Kermit (Vickie) Schol; four nephews, Aaron (Brittany) Schol, John Schol, Grant Schol, and Hunter Corder; as well as a grand-niece, Cassandra. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry M. Schol.
A gathering of family and friends in her honor will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain Home, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. Arrangements are being handled by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
