As a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, Fred served his country with honor and distinction. After his naval service, he became a member of law enforcement and continued his post service career as a correctional officer for the State of Nevada, a position he held until he permanently retired and moved to Mountain Home in 1988.

Fred was active in many civic groups such as; the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, the Amateur Radio Relay League, the Retired Enlisted Association, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the AFSCME Retirees, Nevada Chapter. He was also a staunch Republican and never shirked his responsibility to vote. He was a ferocious reader, and especially liked Baby Blues and Snoopy. He enjoyed Suduko, cryptograms, and bowling. Fred's calling was ham radio and computers.

After his wife of 17 years passed, eventually he began a new life with Ursula, who was a co-worker. This union lasted 42 years. A devoted husband and father, Fred is survived by Ursula; his children, Crystal, Gordon, and Scott; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ula-Mae; brother, Richard; sisters, Virginia and Ruby; daughter, Pam; and wife, Betty.
