Jorene Murley of Cotter, Arkansas, also lovingly known as Jo, Nanna Jo, and Auntie Jo, passed away August 8, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 87. She was born April 3, 1937, in Ontario, Oregon, the daughter of John Anderson and Edna Johnson Dittus. Jo lived in the Cotter area for over 20 years, after moving around Texas, Oregon, and California. Throughout her life, Jo found joy in pursuing various passions. She owned and operated a sewing and knitting supply store, Jo's Notions, where she shared her love for crafting with others. In addition to her knack for sewing, knitting and crocheting, Jo showcased her artistic talents by creating and selling pottery, leaving behind pieces that spoke of her creativity. Described as cheerful, caring, inquisitive, and smart, Jo's warm personality drew many friends to her. Beyond her professional pursuits, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Jo enjoyed cooking and found peace in tending to her garden. She was a football fan and cheered on the Raiders and Texas A&M. One of Jorene’s greatest accomplishments was her ability to love her family unconditionally. She was a devoted mother to four amazing children and always put their needs above her own. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat, Nibbles, who brought her joy and companionship throughout the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kind spirit, warm smile, and unwavering love for her family will forever hold a special place in our hearts. May she rest in peace knowing that she touched the lives of so many with her kindness and generosity.
Jo is survived by her son, Larry (and wife Stephanie) Basinger of Southlake, TX; brother, Jack, sister, Bobbi; grandchildren, Morgan, Zachary, Bailee, Taylor, John, Venicia, Tia, and Kayla; and many nephews, nieces and great grandchildren.
