Dr. Douglas William Marx passed away on July 22, 2026, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 76. Doug was born on June 4, 1950, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Arthur and Elaine (Dessommes) Marx. He served in the United States Army as a medic in Vietnam. When he returned, he met Dawn, and they were married in 1974. Doug graduated from McNeese State University in 1976. He graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 1980. He was appointed a Reserve Officer as Lieutenant (Medical Corps) in the United States Navy in 1979. He completed his internship at Naval Hospital San Diego. The following year he served as the Senior Medical Officer on board USS New Orleans, after which he began his residency at the Naval Hospital Oakland where he completed his ophthalmology residency training. Doug was appointed a Captain in the United States Navy as a Reserve Officer in 1999. Doug and Dawn moved to Mountain Home in 1987 and Doug began his practice as an ophthalmologist at Sneed Eye Clinic, where he practiced for 36 years. He was an active member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spearfishing with his family.

Doug is survived by his wife, Laura Dawn (Baukman) Marx; three sons, Jacob Marx, Samuel Marx, and Jonathan Marx; five siblings, Don Marx, wife Valerie, Richard Marx, wife Donna, Joan Crider, husband Bob, Vivian Kelty, husband Bob, and Lynette Haynes, husband Ron.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elaine Marx; his son, Douglas Marx, Jr.; his brother, David Marx; and his sister, Marie Farber.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Alex Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Jacob Marx, Samuel Marx, Jonathan Marx, Elijah Marx, Bobby Crider, and Arthur Crider serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, 1042 Highland Circle, Mountain Home, AR 72653.
