Dorothy Marie Smith, 87, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. Dorothy was born on September 15, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Wilfred and Martha (Keller) Jens. Dorothy was a contracting officer for the United States Department of Defense. She married Johnny Massey Jun 16, 1957 and had 4 children, Lonnie Massey, Sharon (Massey) Morris, Johnna (Massey) Algarva and Steven Massey. She then married Buford Smith on September 4, 1976, in San Diego, California.

After retiring, they moved from Chula Vista, California to Arkansas, where they became active members of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3183 in Midway, Arkansas. She was a member of Christ by the Lake Lutheran Church and she enjoyed running the food pantry for 20 years. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles' Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and she managed Bingo at the Eagle's for more than 20 years raising funds for the Mountain Home literacy foundation.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sharon Morris of Willard, MO, Johnna (Gary) Algarva of Norwood, MO; her son, Steven (Debbie) Massey of Midway, AR; daughter-in-law, Joan Massey of Fort Worth, TX; her sister, Kay (Neil) Turner of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tamara) Lafave, Raymond (Melanie)Yescas, Johnnie (Delia) Yescas, Jennifer LaFave, Rebecca Yescas, Katherine Kay, and Shawn (Denise)Massey; as well as several great-grandchildren, Gwen, Elijah, Jacob, Greyson, Khloe, Austin, Benjamin, Luke, Jesse, Steven, Beau, Rosie, Allie, Amelia and James, as well as several great-great-grandchildren. She also has as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred Jens and Martha (Keller) Jens; her brother, Duane Jens; her husbands, Johnny Massey and Buford Smith; her son, Lonnie Massey; her grandson Christopher Massey; and her sisters, Billie Mountjoy and Marilyn Lorentzen.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Christ by the Lake Lutheran Church in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hope Cemetery in Vanzant, Missouri, with Jeffrey LaFave, Raymond Yescas, Johnnie Yescas, Benjamin Yescas, Elijah LaFave and Jaccob LaFave serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Yescas, Greyson LaFave and Steven Massey.
