Doris Fay Upchurch Park was born January 26, 1942, in Queen City, Texas, to Robert Jackson “RJ” and Veda Hickey Upchurch. For years—okay, decades—she had her daughter convinced Queen City was named after her. If you knew Maw, you know why.
She was one of two bundles of joy born that day. Imagine that—two for one!
Maw was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George Thomas “GT,” Jackson Lee “JL” (Ruby), Harold Eugene (Minnie and Mary), and her twin, Donald Ray Upchurch; her husband, William L. “Bill” Park; and her daughter, Barbara Jean Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelli, and her daughter-in-love, Kim, of the home; her sister, Annetta “Ann” Solley of Mountain Home; her sister-in-love, Nadine Upchurch of Vivian, Louisiana; and her very special nephew and brother, Jessie “Gary” (Liz) Smith of Brevard, North Carolina.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ari (Lindsey), Thor, Katelyn, and Jose (Shealee); her great-grandchildren, Parker, Oaklynn, Ellie, Oliver, and Maggie; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She had many other “kids” too—too many to list, but never too many for Maw.
Whether you called her Momma, Maw, Aunt Doris, or Mrs. Doris, you knew you were loved and that you were one of her kids. It never mattered who you were, where you came from, what you had been through, your age, sex, or color. You were hers, and she loved you. If you knew Maw, you loved her—and you knew you were loved. She had room in her heart for everybody, whether you were on the family tree or simply showed up.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Ozarks for their exceptional care during these last few days and for helping “her” nurses get to be daughters.
Visitation will be held at Gorsukowski Funeral Home in Vivian, Louisiana, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
