“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Donald T. McGorty, 95, went home to Jesus on July 23, 2024, in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Don was born and raised in Bronx, New York City. With his best gal, Mary, by his side, he pursued a successful career as an engineer in both New York and Florida. A dedicated serviceman, Don proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
His many passions included marathons (finishing in the Honolulu Marathon), triathlons in Florida, and camping in the peaceful woods of Walton Lake, NY. Don was a proud Dad and Grandpa who instilled his love of Christ, sports, and the outdoors in his family. He had an overriding passion to share the love and Good News of Jesus Christ with those who crossed his path.
In 1991, Don retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he made a lasting impact in the community, volunteering as a pastor with the North Central Unit prison in Calico Rock, and a chaplain at Baxter Regional Medical Center. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, swimming, and boating in beautiful Norfork Lake.
Don was preceded in death by his dear wife, Mary (Anna) McGorty, and granddaughter Jeni. He is survived by his children, Rory (Sue), Donna Nelson, Glenn (Kim), and Christina.
Grandchildren, Missy, Shawn, Erik, Brieanna, Shannon, and many great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services - Mountain Home, Arkansas. To offer condolences or share memories of Don, please visit the online obituary and guestbook at www.kirbyandfamily.com.
