Don Crapnell

Don William Crapnell of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on August 26, 1935, in Louisiana, Missouri, he was the son of Scott and Virginia Jackson Crapnell.

Don pursued his education at the University of Missouri School Mines and Metallurgy, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he married Loretta Hoagland on February 1, 1959, in Alton, Illinois. His professional career led him to become a civil engineer, and he distinguished himself as the district manager of operations for the Western District of the American Bridge Division at US Steel Corporation.

In 1996, Don and Dee relocated from Huntington Beach, California, to Mountain Home, where he became an integral part of the community. He was a dedicated member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home, leading a Bible study for 17 years. His commitment to service extended to several organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, Elks, and Twin Lakes Golf Club. Additionally, Don devoted 25 years to leadership in the Boy Scouts of America, guiding and inspiring young people in their growth.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark (Zelma) Crapnell of Huntington Beach, CA, and David (Jody) Crapnell of Shippenville, PA; two granddaughters, Colleen (Chad) Markowitz and Tara (Brad Teaford) Crapnell; and five great-grandchildren, Penelope, Mickey, Donavan, Billie, and Marlo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Home, with Reverend Mike Clark officiating. Don will be laid to rest beside his wife in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Mark Crapnell, David Crapnell, Chad Markowitz, and Brad Teaford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. The arrangements are handled by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
