Dr. Dmitriy Zak, 57, beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician, and friend, passed away on August 25, 2026.

Dmitriy was born on April 2, 1969, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to Vitaliy Zak and Polina. He attended medical school in Uzbekistan.

In 1995, Dmitriy moved from Uzbekistan to New York, where he began building his life in the United States. He married the love of his life, Veronica Gorelova, on November 9, 1999. Together, Dmitriy and Veronica built a life centered around their family, their careers in medicine, and their devotion to one another.

Dmitriy completed his internal medicine residency at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went on to practice medicine in upstate New York and later in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, before relocating to the Mountain Home area with his wife, Dr. Veronica Zak, a psychiatrist, and their two sons, Leon and Gregory.

Dr. Dmitriy Zak joined Baxter Health in 2019 and Highland Oncology in 2023. Throughout his years of caring for patients in Mountain Home and the surrounding communities, he became far more than a physician to countless individuals and families. He was a deeply compassionate and gifted oncologist who cared for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. His patients knew him for his medical knowledge, kindness, patience, warmth, and genuine concern for those entrusted to his care.

Dmitriy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family. He loved traveling with Veronica and their family, spending time with those he loved, and taking walks with their two precious dogs. He especially cherished his role as grandfather to Matilda.

Those who knew Dmitriy will remember a truly one-of-a-kind man whose intelligence was matched by his compassion and whose life touched far more people than he could have ever known. His absence will be profoundly felt by his family, friends, colleagues, patients, and the entire community he served.

Dmitriy is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Veronica Zak; his son, Leon Zak and his wife, Laura; his granddaughter, Matilda; his son, Gregory Zak; his mother, Polina; and his sister, Marina Zak, and her family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vitaliy Zak.

Dr. Dmitriy Zak devoted his life's work to caring for others. He will be remembered for the lives he helped, the people he loved, and the immeasurable difference he made in his family, his profession, and his community.
