Charles Robert Swanson left behind a life filled with family, faith, friendship, hard work, and a deep love of the outdoors. He was born on September 21, 1954, in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, to Frederick Robert Swanson and Cleo Kay Coonc. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his siblings Teresa, Fred, Eric, Kim, and Jason.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Andrea Randall Swanson; his children, Shad Swanson (Melinda), Shannon Hohosh (Robert), and Sharron Leyba (Cory); 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will remember him fondly.

Charles graduated from high school in Ketchikan, Alaska, and went on to attend Idaho State University and the University of Utah. He remained a devoted Ute throughout his life and took great pride in his connection to the University of Utah.

His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Charles was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On July 19, 1974, he and his beloved wife, Andrea, were sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together, they found great joy in spending time in the temple and serving the Lord.

Charles was an Eagle Scout, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service, character, and the values he held dear. He carried those principles with him throughout his life, always valuing hard work, independence, and helping others.

A true outdoorsman, Charles found some of his greatest happiness in fishing, hunting, riding horses, and spending time in the open country. He loved being outdoors and felt most at home in the places where he could enjoy the beauty and freedom of nature. His love for fishing, hunting, horses, and the outdoors created countless memories that will continue to be cherished by those who knew him.

Charles and Andrea shared a beautiful lifelong passion for square dancing. For many years, they were active fixtures in the local square dancing community, where they could always be found spinning and smiling across the dance floor.

Charles also took great pride in his career as a Journeyman Machinist. He was skilled at his craft and valued the satisfaction that came from doing his work well.

Charles will be remembered most for his love of family, his strong faith, his independent spirit, his dedication to hard work, and his appreciation for the outdoors. Above all, he leaves behind a legacy of love and memories shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

His life touched many, and his memory will live on in the stories told, the traditions carried forward, and the many moments spent together in the places and activities he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Green Burial Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:00 am, in the Green Burial Section of Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with Bishop Chad Maple officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City, Utah.
