William B. Smith

William “Bill” Burrows Smith, 70, of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, passed away on May 17, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. Bill was born in Portland, Oregon on March 5, 1949. He graduated in 1967 from Little Rock Hall High School. After graduation he entered the US Navy and proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam War.

Bill attended the University of Arkansas Little Rock. He earned a Bachelor of Business Management and Human Relations in 1977 and later earned a second Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Education in 1991. Bill taught elementary school at Bayou Meto Elementary School for the majority of his 20 plus years in education.

Bill raised his family in Jacksonville where he was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. After leaving Jacksonville, Bill lived in various places including Lynn, Hot Springs, and finally Bull Shoals.

He enjoyed the outdoors in all forms, but deer hunting was his passion. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, Arkansas Razorback events, and traveling.

Bill is survived by two sons: Jeremy Smith (wife Anna) of Jacksonville, and Patrick Smith (wife Leslie) of Springdale; grandchildren Madeline Graves, Ethan Smith, Geneva Smith, Lexa Smith, and Evan Smith; brother Lewis Smith Jr. (wife Kathy) of Orange City, Florida; sisters Meryl Black (husband Marvin) of Hot Springs, Alice Mowrey (husband Mark) of Hot Springs and his best friend William Carpenter of Sherwood. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Dorothy Smith, and sister Gaye Smith.

A memorial celebration will be held this summer at a date and location to be determined. Cremation is under the direction of Kirby & Family Funeral and Cremation Services - Bull Shoals, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bayou Meto Elementary School PTO, 26405 AR-107, Jacksonville, AR 72076. The family of Bill wishes to thank the nursing staff of Baxter Regional Medical Center; especially his nurse Debbie who was a source of comfort in his last days.
