Wanda Smith died Sunday, February 10, 2008 in Longmont at the age of 81. Wanda Smith was born Tuesday, February 23, 1926 in Fredericktown, Missouri, daughter of Gertrude Howell Walter. She married John Smith on June 23, 1947 at Fredericktown, Missouri and moved to Palatine, Illinois with her family in 1960. Her working career started many years ago at New Era Bank in Fredericktown, Missouri and ended with her retirement from Hich School District 211 in Schaumburg, Illinois. In her roll with the school district, she juggled many tasks as executive secretary for her dear friend Principal Carl Weimer, and was instrumental in the planning and opening of Schaumburg High School. Wanda and her husband, John retired to Mountain Home in 1984 from Schaumburg, Ilinois. She was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church., the Columbian Ladies, VFW Auxillary #3246, American Legion Auxillary and a Euchristic Minister. They moved to Longmont in 2006. Survivors: her husband, John Smith, Longmont, Colorado, daughter, Sherry (Jim) Goerlitz of Longmont, Colorado, son, Paul (Debbie) J. Smith of Clarkridge, Arkansas, grandchildren, Jennifer and Sara Goerlitz, Michelle (Chris) Vergez all of Longmont, Colorado, and Matthew Smith of Clarkridge, Arkansas. Preceded in Death by: her mother Gertrude, brothers, Howard, Thomas and Phillip. Visitation: 5-8 P.M., Thursday, February 14 with Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral: Funeral Mass for Wanda P. Walter Smith of Longmont, Colorado, formerly of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 15, 2008 at St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church, with Reverend James Fanrak officiating. Burial: Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home Memorials: Alzheimer's Foundation.
