Roderick Donald Fraser

Roderick Fraser, 86, passed away on August 8, 2022, in Cotter, Arkansas. Rod was born on December 28, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, to Alexander Fraser and Mary Dubbs. Rod graduated from Chicago Christian High School in 1954 and went on to earn a degree in industrial design from the University of Illinois.

Rod met Alice in 1951, whom he later married on December 27, 1958 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Rod served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. After serving with the Army, he started his career, belonged to the Bricklayers and Concrete Masons Union, owned his own business "The Flame" from 1974 until 1996. He built everything in fireplaces, including Jim Nabors' and Richard Pryor's fireplaces in Maui, Hawaii. He helped to restore House of Blues and Jacques Brewery in New Orleans, finally retiring to Arkansas in 1999. He belonged to the Elks Club, North Arkansas Classic Chevy Club (now the Twin Lakes Classic Car Club), and attended the First United Methodist Church. He loved his classic cars, model trains, and was an accomplished artist.

Rod is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Fraser of Cotter, AR; daughter, Cristi Marie Cagasan of Honolulu, HI; two sons, Roderick Fraser of Maui, HI, and Michael Kai Fraser of New Orleans, LA. He was a wonderful uncle to Donna Fortin, Susan Rada, and Martin Harry Rech, who were like his children. He had 11 grandchildren, Kelsey, Kirby, Kiley, Kai, Krislyn, Colin, Angelyn, Alyssia, Ikaika, Josephine, and Kekualani; six great-grandchildren, Zyana, Zayden, Zhaylyn, Brooklyn, Ireh, and Ezekiel (EZ); as well as a host of grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made in Rod's name to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
