A Gathering of Friends for Richard William Filkins of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home.
Richard passed away April 21, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 86. He was born January 29, 1932, in Albany, New York, the son of LeRoy and Ann Filkins. Richard served 26 years with the U.S. Air Force as a re-fueling boom operator from March Air Force Base. Affectionately known by his Air Force flying buddies as "Tricky Dick" for his warmth and sense of humor. Richard lived in Mountain Home since moving from Palm Springs, California, in 2015.
Richard is survived by his son, Joe (Jody) Filkins of Norco, CA; three daughters, Catherine (Clint) Sawyer of Mountain Home, AR, Mary Ann Mendonca of Victorville, CA, and Nancie (John) Filkins Fontaine of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Filkins and Don Filkins; son, Mark Filkins; son-in-law, Greg Mendonca; and great-granddaughter, Dana Lois Verhoeven.
Burial will be in the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
