Padrta Emil Padrta Sr.

December 13, 1926 — January 24, 2018

A Visitation for David Emil Padrta, Sr. of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, Janaury 29, 2018 at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home.

David was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1926. As a young boy the family moved to Solway, Minnesota to set up a homestead. Life was hard, work was hard as they struggled through the Depression without electricity, indoor plumbing, and a radio that ran on a car battery. But the family was strong, and they lived a good and simple life. This life instilled in David an incredible work ethic, and he would reuse, recycle and waste not, for the rest of his life.

David graduated from Bemidji High School and in 1944 he enlisted in the U S Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He was stationed in Okinawa, during the preparations to invade Japan, when the war ended. He served 2 more years during the Korean War.

David was employed by Mid-Continental Airlines after the war and later employed with North Central Airlines in Minneapolis, as a Supervisor of Station Agents from 1952 till his retirement in the 1980’s.
In 1954, he met the love of his life, Britt, and had 3 children. He was a great husband and Dad!

David was a Boy Scout leader, baseball and softball coach. He encouraged his kids to participate in sports and to always do their best. David loved being outdoors and working in his garden, maintaining his lawn and fish pond. He was proud of his blueberries! He loved reading, making homemade bread, and collecting Aladdin Lamps. He was a great storyteller! The stories of his life growing up in the old days and during the war were always fascinating. And, he adored his cat, Lilly.

David never had anything bad to say about anyone. He was as honest as they come and a decent human being. He had a kind heart and soul. He was a proud American and staunch supporter of the NRA, and a proud WWll and Korean vet.

He is survived by two sons, David Padrta, Jr. (Kathy) of Cannon Falls, MN and Gary Padrta of Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Barbra Linker (Todd) of Mountain Home, AR; grandchildren, Neal, Carlie and Matthew Padrta; great-grandsons, Elijah, Dylan, Devon and brother, Jerry Padrta (Judy) of Port Saint Lucie, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
