Mary (Anna) McGorty

October 15, 1931 — September 7, 2022

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for
those who love Him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9

Mary McGorty went home to Jesus on September 7, 2022. She was 90.

Mary was born and raised in the Bronx, New York City. She enjoyed a life-long love of singing. A highlight of her life was being invited to sing at the acclaimed Carnegie Hall in Manhattan.

She began her professional career as a telephone operator, eventually retiring with AT&T.

Mary was truly a renaissance woman, deftly juggling career, children, and grandchildren. She was very involved and wore many hats in her children’s extra-curricular activities ranging from Cub Scout leader, Basketball Coach, and Swim Team Bus Driver.

She loved being a grandmother, enjoying walks to the beach, crafts, and cooking with her grandchildren. Going to “Granny’s House” was a much anticipated event for all the grandkids.

A talented artist, she worked in ceramics, paint, and was also an accomplished seamstress.

Christian ministry was an important part of Mary’s life. She loved helping women in prison come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and nurturing their relationship with the Savior.

After New York, Mary and her family spent many happy years living in South Florida before moving with her husband to Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1993.

Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jeni. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald; children, Rory (Susan), Donna Nelson, Glenn (Kim), and Christina.

Grandchildren, Missy, Shawn, Erik, Brieanna, Shannon; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with private burial.
