G. Kay Cantergiani

April 10, 1942 — September 23, 2022

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in ME, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in ME will never die - ever. Do you believe this? Yes, Lord, she told HIM”…. And on September 23, 2022 Kay Cantergiani passed from this life of physical ailments to eternal life with her Lord.

Kay, the only child born to the union of John and Gertrude (Jennings) Cantergiani on April 10th, 1942 in Decatur, Illinois. Her mother was a school teacher and her father was the top Federal Bank Examiner of the Land Bank & Farm Credit in St. Louis, Missouri. Kay was very proud of her heritage from the old country, Pavello, Italy as her paternal grandparents, Vito and Mary (Narvi) Cantergiani had relocated from there. She was also the granddaughter of Harry and Elva Jennings and the niece of Aunt Audrey and Uncle Chala Spence. Kay was reared by her aunt and uncle due to her mother’s health and father’s traveling employment with the US government. She attended school at Waterford Township High School, Waterford, Michigan participating in choir and business administration. After working for the Humble Oil Company (which later became Standard Oil), Kay’s career path landed her in corporate America in St. Louis, Missouri where she was administrative special assistant to the company which allowed her to travel the world. Her travels afforded her the opportunity to collect many treasures, jewelry and antiques. Kay concluded her career and relocated to Mtn. Home, Arkansas to care for her Aunt Audrey due to Audrey’s failing health. Kay attended Mountain Home Baptist Church and was greatly blessed by the ministry of Pastor James Hoffpauir and Brother Bill Hughes. She was befriended by the Burns family who graciously gave Kay a loving home for her final years.

Kay had a special relationship with her cousin, Doris Houseworth in California. Other survivors include her many cousins in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin, along with her special friends in the Mountain Home area: Coleta, Janett, and Kathy Burns, Cheryl Green, Robin and Mike Williams, and Carol Earl.

Memorial Services will be held in West Frankfort, Illinois Monday, October 3, 2022 at 3 p.m. at the Tower Heights Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Tower Heights Cemetery at 501 N. Walnut Street/PO Box 365, West Frankfort, Illinois, 62896.
