Doris DeSousa

Doris Marion Burnett DeSousa of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away August 21, 2022, in Mountain Home.
She was born on December 21, 1924, in Long Island, New York to Marguerite (Flory) and James Henry Burnett. She graduated from Roanoke College.
She was married to Stuart Byron DeSousa Jr. on June 2, 1945 in Long Island, NY. They moved to Hazel Crest, IL before retiring to Lakeview, Arkansas. Sadly Stuart passed away in August 1985.
Doris worked throughout her life as a secretary, and in Insurance and Real Estate. She was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations including the Fishing club, Power squadron, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Daughters of the Kings, Kindness, and many others. She was also very involved in politics in the Republican Party and as a member of Quorum Court and a justice of the peace. She was an avid reader and bridge player, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Skip Bo. She was also a world traveler.
Doris is survived by her daughter Yvonne Hoeksema (Brian) of Lakeview, Arkansas; her son Stuart B. DeSousa lll (Donna) of Wappinger Falls, NY; seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in Death by a sister Ruth Pembleton, her parents, husband, and a daughter Suzanne Maselli.
We would like to thank the staff at Sycamore Springs Senior Living in Mountain Home who treated her like family and gave her the very best care and attention. We are also indebted to Elite Hospice.
Family services will be private. Entombment will be at St. Andrews Episcopal Church Columbarium in Mountain Home, AR.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
