Donald Wayne Recer

June 8, 1938 — April 22, 2018

A Memorial Service for Donald Wayne Recer of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 26, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Heather Clawitter and Reverend Jarrell Tyson officiating.

Donald passed away April 22, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 79. He was born June 8, 1938, in Farmersville, Texas, the son of Lee and Kate (West) Recer. Don liked and raced motorcycles in his youth, and he held the speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats - 186.7 m.p.h. - for three days (and was overtaken by the eventual winner the last day of the trials). He was active in sports, and won a full ride scholarship to Western New Mexico University, playing football for four years there, and semi-pro-ball for two additional years. Don served in the United States Navy as a medic in Viet Nam for four years. Don coached football, basketball, and track in Battle Mountain, Nevada, where he also taught Physical Education and Social Studies. Don was active in community affairs. He belonged to the Lion's Club, serving as its president, and was active in the United Methodist Church in Battle Mountain.

Don and his wife, Judy moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, in 2000, where they were again active in the United Methodist Church. Don served on the Mission Committee for 18 years, he headed up the Thanksgiving Basket Program for a number of years, and his wife, Judy, assembled and delivered Back Pack Meals every week during the school year for 12 years. He belonged to the Seekers' Sunday School Class and United Methodist Men's Group. Don belonged to the Kiwanis Club and the 6:00 a.m. Men's Prayer Breakfast Group. Don loved being on and in the water. When he and Judy retired to Mountain Home, they had a house boat on Lake Norfork, and for many years, on most days from June through October, he swam and jumped from the deck.

Donald is survived by his wife, Judy Recer of Mountain Home, AR; sister, Pat Richards of Kentucky; son, Brent (Amy) Recer of Texas; step-son, John (Julie) Landberg of Tennessee; step-daughter, Kirsten (Mark) Larson of Maryland; brothers-in-law, John (Stephanie) Fredin of Texas and Bob (Janine) Fredin of Montana; and six grandchildren, James and Jessica Landberg, Aaron and Anneliese Larson, and Erin and Zachary Recer.

Memorials may be made to one of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home's feeding programs: Back Pack Program, Summer Feeding Program, Thanksgiving Baskets, or the Wesley Soup Kitchen, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
