Betty Lou Treat

May 14, 1930 — July 2, 2021

Betty Lou Flippin Treat joyously walked through Heaven's pearly gates on Friday, July 2, 2021. She was born May 14, 1930 in Kansas City, Kansas to Gladys Pace Flippin and William Jasper Waggoner. Betty of North Little Rock, Arkansas grew up in Marion and Baxter County. She played basketball for Cotter High, loved writing poetry and graduated high school in 3 years as salutatorian.

Following high school, Betty moved to Kansas City where she worked as an usher/ticket taker & telephone switchboard operator. After she married Betty moved to North Little Rock working as a housewife and mother to her two boys. She converted to Catholicism in 1959 and remained devout throughout her life.

From 1964 through 1971 Betty worked as a Top Value redemption center associate. Upon both sons’ graduation from high school, she took a seven year hiatus traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, and Quebec. She loved exploring new places.

Betty resumed work in 1978. Her later year gigs included stints as a bank teller, restaurant hostess and private nursing assistant. She retired in 2000.

Throughout her life Betty enjoyed crocheting blankets for her grand and great-grandchildren, making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, knitting hats and scarves, cooking holiday meals, making cookies, gardening, working in her flowerbeds and reminiscing with bigger than life stories.

Betty is survived by her family: son, Kyle Treat (Barbara) and son, Karlin (Karen) Treat; siblings: Wanda Jo Bunch, Carol Ann (Vernon) Branson; grandchildren: Sara (Andrew) Chance, Lauren (Ian) Mrak, Dakoda Hughey, Irish Fitzgerald and Tristan Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Seth, Madeline, and Joseph Chance and Jesse Mrak; step-great-grandchildren, Malin Opitz and Perri, Finley & Reece Opitz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who loved her dearly and will greatly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Luster Flippin; former husband, Kern L Treat; and siblings: Ulis H Flippin, Ann Flippin Carroll, L.T. Flippin, Lucien "Mickey" Flippin. Grace "Arlene" Waggoner Raithel, Wilma Lee "Billie" Waggoner Mantle, William J. "Butch" Waggoner, & Willard G. "Corky" Waggoner.

Visitation at noon will be followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm Saturday, July 10 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home, 717 Central Blvd., Bull Shoals, Arkansas 72619, with Minister of the Alter Steve Trainer officiating. She will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Flippin, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Many thanks to the nurses, doctors and caregivers for their excellent care at Baptist Health Hospice in Little Rock.
