Reverend James A. Barton Sr.

A Funeral Service for Reverend James Allen Barton, Sr. of Conway, Arkansas, formerly of Flippin, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 3, 2015, at Bull Shoals United Methodist Church, with Reverend Wayne Clark officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 3, 2015, 1:00 pm until time of service, at Bull Shoals United Methodist Church.

James passed away July 1, 2015, in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 77. He was born November 20, 1937, in Thayer, Missouri, the son of Marvin and Artie Allen Barton. He married Sophia Baldwin on Easter Sunday, 1956, at Tilton United Methodist Church in Tilton, Arkansas, James studied seminary at Perkins School of Theology. He served as Reverend James Barton in the United Methodist Church for 45 years, beginning at Giffithville, Arkansas, in 1960 and ending his service in England, Arkansas, in 1993. James also served on the worship committee and as chairman of communications for the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church. James lived in Conway since 2011, moving from Flippin, Arkansas. He loved to fish and paint in oils.

James is survived by his wife, Sophia Barton of Conway, AR; children, James (Sherry) Barton of Gentry, AR, Aloha Danette Doss of Conway, AR, and Anthony Barton of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; ten grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Barton, Tammy (Bubba) Hall, Brynn (Casey) Shelly, Brooke Barton, John Ryan (Amanda) Johnson, Kellsie Smalley, Hollis Barton, JB Smalley, Hattie Barton, and Hanna Barton; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hayden and Nova Allen and Elmer and Mary Barton; parents, Marvin and Artie Barton; and great-grandson, Bailey Barton.

Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Brian Barton, John Ryan Johnson, Casey Shelly, Bubba Hall, Levi Hall, and JB Smalley as pallbearers.
