November 21, 1927 — January 8, 2011

Memorial Services for Onita Fay Trett of Mountain Home, Arkansas will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Nancy Taylor officiating. Services will also be provided by the Order of Eastern Star #202. Onita died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at her residence at the age of 83. She was born November 21, 1927 in Moody, Missouri, the daughter of D.T. and Iola Dixon Trett. Onita grew up on a farm in Missouri?s Ozark mountains. After getting her degree in Education, History, and English at Southwest Missouri State, she took a job teaching 6th grade in Coalinga, in California?s central valley. After teaching for two years, she decided to see a bit of the world so she got a job in Iran. She took a train to New York and boarded a freighter that took her to Italy and Ethiopia before finally docking in Abidan. She taught at the Anglo Iranian Oil Company school there for the next two years. She then returned to Coalinga and taught for two years before getting her master?s at San Francisco State. After graduating she wanted to go overseas again, so she joined Aramco, where she taught 5th grade in Dhahran. There, she got involved in the Dhahran Outing Group (taking trips throughout the region), square dancing, and the Protestant Fellowship. She also took advantage of Aramco?s generous travel benefits to see the world. She visited England, France, the Netherlands, and spent two glorious weeks on a riverboat traveling down the Rhine River in Germany. She also spent quite a bit of time in Italy and Greece. She traveled extensively in the Middle East as well, visiting Turkey, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank, and Yemen. She also saw a great deal of Egypt over the years, spending time in Alexandria, Cairo, and Luxor. After twenty-three years in Arabia, she retired from Aramco and moved to Houston, TX, where she lived for 14 years, before settling in Arkansas. Her last years were spent enjoying domino games at the senior center, scrabble club, and her church family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Onita is survived by her brother, T.K. Trett of Viola, AR; several nieces and nephews and her companion Pomeranian, Roxie. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Kenneth Dixon and Lyndal J. Trett. Memorials may be made to the Van Matre Senior Center, 1101 Spring St., Mountain Home, AR 72653. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
