A Memorial service for Michael Lee Polich of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Bull Shoals, AR will be 2PM Saturday January 6, 2018, at Twin Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Sam Bailey officiating.
Michael, 44, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was born May 24, 1973, in Peoria, IL to Frederick and Kristine (Hatfield) Polich. He was engaged to Sheryll Penafiel of the Philippines. He was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Mountain Home. He enjoyed photography, swimming, kayaking, and spending time with his friends and family.
Mike graduated from Flippin High School (Flippin, AR) in 1992 and was pursuing a degree in photography in Virginia Beach. He served 19 years in the United States Navy (Risk Management) until he was medically discharged with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in 2010. He served three tours of duty in the Northern Arabian Gulf. One of his commanders (Commander Scott Larson) wrote, “I had the distinct honor and privilege to serve as Michael’s Commanding Officer on USS CHINNOOK (PC 9) in 2007. He was hands down, the most dedicated and talented Culinary Specialist I have ever known . . . your son is being held in the thoughts and prayers of shipmates who will never forget the impact he made on us, his ship, and his country. - He was also one of my most poised and dedicated Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) Team members, demonstrating at extremely high degree of professional versatility and tactical proficiency in the flawless execution of countless boarding evolutions in a highly-charged operational environment.” Michael won numerous first place trophies in automobile stereo sound production-engineering competitions and Taekwondo. He had entertaining writing skills and an exceptional eye for photography. He was an avid skate boarder and loved spelunlunking in the Ozarks.
He is survived by his parents, Fred and Kristine Polich of Bull Shoals, AR; one daughter Kaitlyn Polich and her mother Robyn Polich of Virginia Beach, VA; one nine month old son Zane Polich of the Philippines; sister Virginia Palmer of Boulder City, NV; aunt Leslie Hatfield of Chicago, IL; and his beloved fiancée, Sheryll Penafiel of the Philippines.
Burial with Military Honors will be in Albert G Horton Jr Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
