Mary Lucile Carberry

October 4, 1914 — January 11, 2018

Mary L. Carberry, 103, was born October 4, 1914 at Faith, South Dakota in the Black Hills. She passed away January 11, 2018. She graduated in 1932 at Franklin and attended Nettleton Commercial College in Souix Falls. She worked in Chicago, Illinois and married Melvin Carberry on June 8, 1940. She worked in a gun factory during the war. While living in Bloomington and back in Chicago, she volunteered at church and the library. She took care of her widowed father before leaving Chicago to retire in Mountain Home in 1972. They were among the first residents of Rolling Meadows when it was first developed by F & H Wehmeyer. Melvin and Mary were both active members of St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church. Mary volunteered at the craft shop where Melvin sold his art work. They both volunteered with Senior Meals at the former Methodist Church. In 1988, Melvin died and Mary continued volunteering at the church, joining the Widows/Singles Club.

In 2015, at the age of 100, Mary moved to Baxter Retirement Village. She was active in Bingo, church services and other fun activities. Carla and the staff took wonderful care of Mary. This October, Mary moved to Hiram Shaddox.

Her words of wisdom at turning 103 and living in Mountain Home for 45 years. "I have enjoyed living in Mountain Home. There are so many good people here. I think it is a very good place to live."

Mary is survived by one sister-in-law, Fern Fergen of California, 7 nieces; 4 nephews; many friends, including cousin and caregiver Mrs. Dan (Linda) Harrington of Mountain Home, AR; and faithful neighbors Jack and Marilynn Ladd.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three brothers, Loren, Virgil and Vincent; and niece, Suzanne.
