David L. McCarville

A Funeral Service for David L. McCarville of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Reverend David Gadbaw and Pastor John Easterling and Pastor Fred Hagemeier officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 15, 2014, 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Born on November 8, 1931 on his grandfather's farm, rural Cresco, IA. His gentle, quiet soul went to meet his savior on December 13, 2014.

He was one of seven siblings born to Michael and Francis (Turek) McCarville. He attended school in Lime Springs, IA. Shortly after high school he joined the navy and served on the USS Walke for nearly four years. While serving during the Korean War his ship was torpedoed, losing 27 sailors. He was flanked by a man on either side who did not survive. David received injuries for which he received the Purple Heart. After an honorable discharge he married Shirley Kassebaum on March 19, 1955, they lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for a short time before moving on to Chicago where David attended college graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He was immediately hired by Boeing Aerospace for which he was employed for 32 years. He lived in 10 states while employed by Boeing. His more notable work was at Cape Canaveral, where he had the prestigious privilege and honor to represent the Boeing Company in the Command Center for Apollo liftoffs. He also was very proud to be a part of history by working on the Saturn and Apollo rockets, Minuteman Missile Defense System and developing avionics for B-52 bombers and the Comanche helicopter. He and Shirley chose the Ozarks for their retirement in 1995. After moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas he enjoyed playing cards, traveling, fishing and spending time with family and friends. David was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. David was a devout Christian and always had a cross in his pocket. Shirley passed away in Mountain Home on January 1, 2010. He later married Donna Hacecky of Lakeview, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, sister Rilla Craft and brother Ray McCarville.

He is survived by his wife Donna and her family of South Dakota, son Kevin (Roxanne) of Lincoln, NE, daughter Kathy (Mike) Fara of Irwin, IA, five grandchildren, Steve (Leigh) Fara of Junction City, KS, Brandon (Shaye) McCarville of Omaha, NE, Sharon (Burke) Blanchard of Walford, IA, Megan (Spencer) Lauber of Lincoln, NE, Eric (Katie) Fara of Irwin, IA, Six great-grandchildren, Landon and Rylan McCarville, Logan and Skylar Fara, Brycen and Caden Blanchard.

Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, AR, with Steve Fara, Brandon McCarville, Sharon Blanchard, Megan Lauber, Eric Fara and Kim Hacecky as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Building Fund, the Redeemer Food Bank or Hospice of the Ozarks, Hospice House.
