A Graveside Service for David Merritt Jones of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 1:00 pm, Monday, May 7, 2018, at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard.
David passed away April 25, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 68. He was born January 25, 1950, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the son of Col. Arthur D. and Beverley Jones. David enlisted in the United States Army in 1969. He served as a communications center specialist and data communication specialist. He served in Germany and was assigned to the First Signal Brigade, Perishing Missile Company in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. He was Honorably Discharged in April 1972. In 1976, he completed Manatee County Police Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he received his police officer certification. He married Kierstin Grieb on November 19, 1977, in Sarasota, Florida. He was employed as a Police Dispatcher and Patrolman, prior to his twenty-year career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he worked from 1981 to 2001. Initially he was a corrections officer and then advanced to Central Region Case Manager (Captain) for Internal Affairs Division in Huntsville, Texas. He retired to the Twin Lakes area in 2001. David enjoyed the lakes, boating, and fishing. He enjoyed the beauty of the area and loved his God and family deeply. He was a Lifetime member of the V.F.W. and was a Christian and knew the Lord, and was a member of the Mountain Home Baptist Church. He enjoyed collecting coins and target shooting.
David is survived by his wife, Kierstin Jones of Mountain Home, AR; son, Matthew David Jones of Bull Shoals, AR; two daughters, Amanda Kathleen (Bill) Quinton of Bentonville, AR, and Megan LeighAnne Ybarra of Mountain Home, AR; five grandchildren, Yesenia B Jones, twin grandsons, Tate and Kase Quinton, Braven Ybarra, and Grayson Ybarra; two sisters, Patricia (Randal) Tschacher of Abilene, TX, and Barbara C. Jones of Ocala, FL; and his beloved dogs, Peanut Butter, Macaroni, and Sheeba.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert M. Jones.
Memorials may be made to the Mountain Home Baptist Church.
