Clarence "Curly" Caldwell

December 19, 1923 — April 8, 2014

A Celebration of Life for Curly Caldwell, 90, will take place June 28, 2014 from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Bull Shoals-White River Pavilion 2 with Military Honors at 11 AM. Curly passed away at his home on April 8, 2014.

Curly was born December 19, 1923 in Gurley, NE to George and Anna McGrane Caldwell. He married Norma “Polly” Pauline Lamb on April 15, 1944 in Carroll, IA while on leave from serving during WWII on the USS Naval carrier, USS Bougainville. Curly’s career as a sales representative for Memorial Gardens took Curly and Polly to many states before they settled down in Rockford, IL. Curly worked for The Rockford Public School District for 20 years as a building engineer. He and Polly moved to Lakeview in 1986. He was active in the community as a lifetime member of the Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 VFW; Past President of the Bull Shoals Retired Fishing Club, responsible for organizing the Parade Group (his floats were well known in the area), Kids Fishing Derby, the trout Feeding program at the Lakeview Marina and the Lighting of the Bull Shoals Tower at Christmas time; Past Member of the Lakeview Community Club, active participant and coordinator of Dogwood Days and the lighted pontoon parades; Member of the North Arkansas Wood Carvers where he carved along with other carvers and created several public carvings, including carvings at Lakeview City Park and the children’s play area at Cooper Park in Mountain Home; active member in the Lakeview Breakfast/Buoy Group; and supported and actively participated in the Bull Shoals Lake 4th of July Fireworks. He loved living in the Twin Lakes community. He was an avid fisherman, cared about fish habitation and lake preservation. He will be remembered for his love of his family, his animals, his friends and his great zest for life.

Curly is survived by his four daughters, Sandra (Mike) Sandvig of Idaho Falls, ID; Sharon “Terri” (Lee) Argyle of Lakeview; AR, Cynthia “Cindy” (Doug) Stephens of Lakeview, AR; and Michelle “Micki” (Mike) Bowers of Rockford, IL; and one son, Patrick (Yogi) Caldwell of Rockford, IL; 8 grandchildren: Dianna (Tim) Hopkins, Shannon (Kent) Voga, Tyson (Julie) Gehlhausen, Deidre (Dave Zaslow) Argyle, Rebecca Honaker, Joseph Sandvig, Marcus Sandvig and Christopher Sandvig; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

His parents, his wife, four brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson, Dillon Bunch, preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks “Pet Peace of Mind Program”.
